The Bridge Sports Complex celebrates 3rd anniversary

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WDTV) – The Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport is celebrating their third anniversary.

The complex opened its doors to the public on June 25, 2021, and has grown into a regional attraction with over 1,000,000 people visiting the campus annually, officials said.

The Bridge was a project ten years in the making, officials said, and three years in, the facility has seen massive growth and exceeded original expectations.

“I am looking forward to the continued expansion of The Bridge,” said Bridgeport Mayor Andy Lang. “Its facilities and programming are big assets to our community.”

More than 50 tournaments and events were hosted in the 2023-2024 year, including over 300 young athletics participating in club teams and about 50 adult league teams. The complex has more than 6,000 members from Harrison County and beyond, officials said.

“The Bridge Sports Complex has become a regional presence in sports programming while continuing to focus on the local community,” said Bridgeport Councilman Clayton Rice. “I am proud to be a part of the Bridge Advisory Committee and feel the expansion discussions that are occurring will continue to build on the focus of serving the local community, in tandem with enhanced sports and cultural programming. I cannot say enough about the diligent work and focus of the entire Bridge management team and staff.”

There are plans for expansion beginning with an inclusive playground, officials said, and several new programs are set to begin this fall.

“City leadership, both past and present, has created an unbelievable opportunity for citizens of Bridgeport and surrounding communities,” said Droo Callahan, general manager of The Bridge. “This project will bring state-of-the-art facilities to our local community members while creating revenues for future growth by securing funds through sports tourism. Every event that takes place helps create a better environment for tournament goers as well as establishing world-class facilities for our community.”

The complex sits on 126 acres in Bridgeport and includes an outdoor turf field, baseball diamonds, multipurpose fields, a walking path and the Citynet Center, which is an indoor facility with 156,000 square feet of courts, turf, aquatics, fitness and more.
