Messy Monday: Free Youth Arts and Crafts Class in Colonial Heights
The Colonial Heights Recreation & Parks Department will be hosting another Messy Mondays event Monday, April 29th, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Senior Center in the Colonial Heights Community Center.
Recommended for grades K-2, the event is part of the Recreation & Parks department’s “Messy Mondays” series. Children in attendance will get a chance to get messy (outside of your home!) and have fun with arts and crafts. This week, kids will be playing with shaving cream to make art.

Free Petersburg Summer Camp Registration Now Open
Registration is now open for Petersburg’s free summer camp!
The summer camp is for children between the ages of 6 to 12 and will take place 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from July 1st through August 9th. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Register your child by 6/14/24 by calling the Special Events & Volunteerism department at (804) 324-4015 or emailing recreation@petersburg-va.org.
Monday: Free Fun Fitness Class in Colonial Heights
The Colonial Heights Recreation & Parks Department has partnered with Sports Backers to bring locals a free and fun fitness class on Monday evenings. This class will include a mix of cardio, Pilates and Yoga with the goal of improving muscle strength, balance and flexibility.
The class, which is for ages 13+, will be from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Colonial Heights Community Center’s Community Room, located at 157 Roanoke Ave. Register here by Sunday at midnight to attend. Questions? Please contact the Colonial Heights Recreation & Parks department at 804-520-9390.
Saturday: Free Comic Book Day Festival in Hopewell
Free Comic Book Day Fest will be returning to downtown Hopewell this Saturday, May 4th! The event will be from noon to 5 p.m. at local Hopewell comic book store The Time Capsule, located on 205 E Broadway.
Everyone is welcome! There will be free comic books as well as food trucks, a live performance from band BURN THE JUKEBOX and more. Vendors selling comic books, Pokémon cards, toys, sports cards, crafted items and more will also be present.

The Progress-Index is creating a gallery of photos showcasing Petersburg’s 2024 senior prom. We’ll be present on the big day to take photos of students arriving at the prom, but if we miss you or you’d like to share your favorite photos of the night with the community, please send them our way!
