The economic impact of the JUCO World Series

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – For one week a year, 10 junior college teams descend on Grand Junction to compete for a JUCO World Series title, and with that big influx of people, comes a big jump in revenue for the city.

The City of Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce estimates that this event alone brings in an estimated $2.8 million for the city.

They break it down even further to say that each of the 10 teams involved in the tournament spends around $92,000 during their time in Grand Junction, or around $920,000 if you multiply that by the ten teams involved.

Then, to take into account all of the extra guests being brought along on the trip, let’s multiply that by 3 and that’s how you end up with an almost $3 million week out of one event.

The JUCO World Series has been held in Grand Junction ever since 1959, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going anywhere. The tournament will be held in Grand Junction until at least 2044.
