The French Confection will close after 33 years of business – What’s Up Newp

The French Confection, a beloved local pastry shop in Middletown, will close on Nov. 27, 2024, marking the end of a 33-year journey.

Owners Karen and Xavier Mauprivez recently announced their retirement and the shop’s closure on Facebook and their website. They thanked their customers, saying, “We’re no longer taking online orders. Thanks for your support over the years!”

” After 33 years, The French Confection will close for business on November 27, 2024. We are no longer taking any online orders. Thank you for your patronage!” they posted on their website.

“Karen and Xavier are retiring. The French Confection will close at the end of the day, November 27. Thank you for 13 great years!,” they posted on Facebook.

Located at 72 E Main Rd in Middletown, The French Confection has been a staple in the community. Originally from Reims, France, Xavier Mauprivez moved to the U.S. in 1985, bringing his pastry expertise with him and opening The French Confection in 1991.

Working alongside his son, also named Xavier, the elder Mauprivez has been crafting authentic French pastries. Their menu features classics like chocolate mousse cake, éclairs, fruit tarts, and quiches.

The shop’s website highlights Xavier’s commitment to traditional methods: “He’s kept the art of Viennoiserie and pastry making alive, ensuring customers get a true taste of French comfort food.”

Karen Mauprivez, with degrees from Penn State and Carnegie-Mellon University, joined her husband in running the pastry business.

For those looking to get their final fix of French treats, The French Confection will remain open until Nov. 27.
