Who Are The Game Awards 2024 Nominees?
The Game Awards 2024 Nominees Have Been Chosen
Of course, the Game of the Year award is the most exciting part of the awards, and this year, some interesting and expected titles made the nominee list, with a total of six finalists. 2024 has been a big year for games, but while 2023 had fans puzzling over whether or not BG3 could beat out The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, 2024 lacks the same competitive edge.

37% Of Astro Bot Players Have Never Purchased A Sony Game Before
Astro Bot has sold over 1.5 million copies to date, but the really interesting news revealed is that 37% of buyers are new Sony users.
While some of the finalists were expected, Astro Bot making its way into the top six is quite interesting, especially seeing the titles it is currently running up against. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erd Tree is expected, especially given that DLCs are now contenders in this year’s awards, and the positive reception by fans of the franchise. Black Myth: Wukong made waves since its launch, making it a strong competitor against the rest with its immersive storyline and stunning graphics.
The Game Awards 2024 Is A Bit Different From The Previous Years
DLCs, Remakes, Expansion & More Are Now Eligible For Awards
For the first time in The Game Awards history, fans will see more than just new video game titles in the running for each award, as DLC has been included. While some fans are thrilled at this news, especially those excited about Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, others aren’t thrilled with the new rule. This year, DLCs, remakes, remasters, new game seasons and expansion packs are all in the running for each of The Game Awards Categories, according to the official The Game Awards website FAQ section. They state,
“Expansion packs, new game seasons, DLCs, remakes and remasters are eligible in all categories, if the jury deems the new creative and technical work to be worthy of a nomination. Factors such as the newness of the content and its price/value should be taken into consideration.”
Fans took to X to discuss this change, and while some are thrilled to have their favorite DLCs in the running, others believe that the Game of the Year should remain just that: a singular title in its entirety, not just the additional content. While we still have plenty of time before the winners and honorable mentions are chosen, as the event takes place on December 12, 2024, it will be interesting to see what titles come out on top. For now, these nominees are going to make this race to the top a close one.
