The golden days, when youth sports were pure fun without need for adult involvement

I read with interest the article on youth sports as part of your series with WKYC Channel 3, “How to win at youth sports (without going broke or breaking down).”

It brought back memories of growing up in Lakewood and playing softball during the summer. My team was very similar to the Bad News Bears, but we had a great time. Everyone rode their bikes to the games, which were refereed by high school boys who were paid through the city’s recreation department. Our moms and dads packed us paper bag lunches (always with a treat), which we shared, then we hopped on our bikes and headed home.

It never occurred to us or our parents that adults should be involved. Ah, for the “good old days.”
