The Lemon Twigs: Band of brothers to play Gainesville on their world tour

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – The Lemon Twigs, a New York band formed by brothers Brian and Michael D’Addario, are gearing up to play in Gainesville on their world tour.

Despite the duo performing as a group for nearly a decade, this will be their first time in Gainesville, and the first time they’re playing a stretch of shows in the Sunshine State.

The band has garnered the attention of several big names in the industry, including Elton John, Iggy Pop, Flea, and Questlove, the latter who got them on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for their first television appearance back in 2016.

The brothers have gone to work with Todd Rundgren, Jody Stephens of Big Star, and served as the opening act for Arctic Monkeys during their 2018 tour.

In January, The Lemon Twigs returned to Fallon to play “My Golden Years,” the first single from their latest album A Dream is All We Know. When TV20 asked them to describe the new album in 3 words, they both agreed on “Fun sun vibrations.”

Sean Ono Lennon, son of John Lennon, makes an appearance on the album, thanks to the brothers’ work on a project for their father and fellow musician, Ronnie D’Addario.

“{Sean} kind of asked around that time if we ever wanted to come up to his studio and just record and hang out. And we did and spent about 5 days there and we recorded like 3 songs,” says Brian.

Mapping their sound, The Lemon Twigs cite The Beatles and The Beach Boys as inspirations, with other artists like Gainesville’s own Tom Petty being thrown in the mix.

Michael adds, “I remember we watched {Runnin’ Down A Dream}. This really great documentary. That long documentary. I think more than Tom Petty himself being a huge influence on us, we have a lot of the same influences. We’re huge Byrds fans, and Bob Dylan fans, I love his sound though, and I guess we kind of meld stuff in the same way.”

The Lemon Twigs started their 2024 tour with two sold out shows in New York, and are making Florida stops in Sanford, Gainesville, and Tampa.

They play Heartwood Soundstage on Saturday, May 11th, with opening act Crystal Egg.
