The ‘Love Island’ Guys’ Reunion Fashion Was Chaotic—and Entirely On-Brand
This has been the summer of love. Well, to be more specific, Love Island. Unless you’ve been living under a rock since June, you’ve undoubtedly seen and heard people talking—no, raving—about Season 6 of the show. Drama, betrayal, intrigue, heartbreaks, and true love were displayed for an our on our TVs, five nights a week, as we followed the Islanders through their six-week journey in Fiji. There have been fan-cams and memes, lust and hate, major break-ups and major make-ups. And, through it all, there have been some damn good—and some damn strange—outfits.
Tonight sees all of this season’s Islanders reconvening for the Love Island Reunion, which was filmed in New York last week. In what comes as a surprise to nobody, the Islanders showed up in true Love Island Season 6 fashion—meaning, there were some fantastic fits and some, well, interesting fits. It was slightly chaotic, and I’d expect nothing less.
There were knee-length jorts, cowboy hats, archival designer gowns, and more. But following a season in which two of the most talked-about contestants had uniforms consisting of a pair of denim overalls with nothing underneath and an endless supply of vintage Roberto Cavalli respectively, it’s so on-brand. And it’s good to see that, no matter what goes down at the reunion, even after the season’s end, the Islanders are still bringing the heat.
We need to talk about Rob—the Overalls Wearer in question. During his time in the villa, Rob was…messy, to say the least, and often clad in his denims and little else. Was I surprised to find he came to the reunion in a cowboy hat (he is, after all, from Alabama), a white tank top, and an unbuttoned black shirt? I suppose not. But I was definitely tickled by it. Here’s to experimental accessorizing!
Rob was not the only Islander who dared to don a hat, however. Season 6 winner Kordell took the cake in more ways than one, and in my book, is shaping up to be a certifiable menswear icon. How could he not be, in a head-to-toe KidSuper look fresh off the runway? Hat, jorts, sweater, and sneakers, all from designer Colm Dillane’s spring/summer 2025 show in Paris. It’s a high-fashion look that was both unexpected and under-appreciated.
I do have to wonder if a dress code was sent out to these Islanders, though, because a slew of them showed up in some spiffy, traditionally tailored menswear looks—a wildly different vibe than, say, jorts and a cowboy hat. The reunion was no stranger to the double-breasted jacket, thanks to former Islanders Aaron (in a dark green, pinstriped suit with a gold brooch) and Harrison (looking every bit the Wall Street financier and no part the Australian reality TV contestant in a navy sport coat, paisley tie, and gray chinos).
Inevitably, after seasons of Love Island that do as well as this one has, the Islanders find their niches. Some gain corporate sponsors (Kordell has already done a deal with Cheez-Its), some fade into oblivion, and a select few become fashion moguls; I’m certain that a handful of Season 6 Islanders will meet that last fate.
And no matter what goes down at the reunion itself (which, reportedly, took 11 hours to film due to production delays sparked by Islander in-fighting), the drama has already been brought. The cast of Season 6 is going out the same way they each walked into the villa—with a bang.
