The Nintendo Museum In Kyoto Opens This October

It’s been a while since we heard about the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, but the venue is now ready to be opened this October.

Announced back in 2021, the museum was to be built at the old Ogura Plant factory, which was used to make trading cards, as well as repairing toys and consoles. The location is a fitting one considering that Nintendo’s very long history started out making hanafuda cards.

History being the key word here, as a new Nintendo Direct just dropped (shown below) featuring Shigeru Miyamoto talking about the Nintendo Museum. With many of the attractions focusing on the history of the company and how it started.

From various fun interactive exhibits, the massive game pad setup being clearly wondrous, to more archival elements that show where Nintendo started out and how it ended up as the company we know today.

Tickets can be reserved via the Nintendo Museum site, but it’s worth highlighting that this museum is in Kyoto.

Admittedly, it makes total sense for the Nintendo Museum to be in the same city where Nintendo’s HQ is located as well as the origins of the company. It’s just that getting there will need to be a dedicated trip.

With increased tourism in Tokyo these days due to the fluctuating yen exchange rate, you will need to plan ahead if you want to take a shinkansen to Kyoto and check out this museum.

I’m just glad that the Nintendo Museum has finally been completed and will be open to the public in a few months. Of all the game companies that needed a museum like this, it’s definitely Nintendo.

The Nintendo Museum opens on October 2 and tickets cost 3,300 yen (or around $22) per adult and can be reserved here.
