The Nordic Shop celebrates 50 years of business in downtown Rochester
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – One of the only Scandinavian retail stores in southern Minnesota is celebrating 50 years of business.
The Nordic Shop is locally owned and operated by Louise and Walter Hanson in the Galleria at University Square.
The married couple opened the store in 1974 inside Rochester’s Midtown Plaza.
The Hansons say adapting to changes in the retail industry such as online shopping, digital marketing, and new designs are some of the ways the two were able to keep their businesses afloat.
“We have researched every product that we buy and we’re always looking for new products,” said Louise Hanson.
For Small Businesses Saturday, the Hansons plan to continue their tradition of serving customers mulled wine or apple juice.
Shoppers can also enjoy free cookies and ornaments, and with every Dale of Norway sweater purchase you can receive a free accessory from the company.
The Nordic Shop is most known for the sale of Dale of Norway sweaters. Dale of Norway has been making traditional sweaters since 1879.
