‘The Real World: Austin’ Cast Reunites After Nearly 20 Years: We ‘Laughed, Cried and Binge Watched Our Season’

Though it’s been nearly 20 years, the Real World: Austin cast still remains close.

On Sunday, Oct. 13, Wes Bergmann, Nehemiah Clark, Rachel Moyal-Smith, Melinda Collins (née Stolp) and Lacey Hanmer (née Buehler) opened up about their not-so-official reunion with a joint post shared to Instagram.

“This weekend was the informal Real World: Austin reunion,” the group captioned the post. “We talked, laughed, cried, and binge watched our season. It’s not cliché to say that this is a family.”

They continued, joking that if they were to step back on camera for another episode, “We’d be the most entertaining formal, televised, reunion – ever,” and adding, “There is still a lot to unpack.”

“Neither Johanna or Danny were able to make it. But they we missed,” the fivesome continued, referencing fellow costars Johanna Botta and Danny Jamieson. “We talked to Danny on FaceTime and for all those wondering he’s hot AF.”

Alongside photos of the cast having lunch, enjoying a round of golf and posing for group pictures, the post concluded with “#RealWorldAustin”. Bergmann’s wife Amanda Hornick and their daughter also joined in on the fun.

The Austin iteration of the long-running reality show aired from June-November 2005. It was the 16th season of The Real World franchise, which follows a group of diverse strangers living together for several months in a different city.

In the comments section, the Real World: Austin cast members celebrated the special time they were able to spend together after meeting over two decades ago on the series.

“Love this crazy family that I’ll always be a part of! Y’all have a deep place in my heart ❤️❤️,” Collins wrote while Clark commented, “My heart is full ❤. I am so thankful to call this group of beautiful people my family. I love y’all!!”

This isn’t the first time the group has reunited over the years. In 2018, the cast gathered to attend Bergmann’s wedding to Hornick at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri. The only two Real World: Austin roommates who weren’t present were Bergmann’s ex Johanna Botta (they dated for three years after their season, ending the relationship in 2008) and Collins’ ex-husband Danny Jamieson.

At the time, Hanmer shared a group photo of her and her former castmates at the wedding to her Instagram.

“These people make me so happy,” she captioned the post. In the comments, Botta congratulated the happy couple, and Hanmer revealed that Clark officiated the ceremony.

Shortly after the roommates continued the fun by heading to a Kansas City Royals baseball game the following day.

“My best brother friend,” Hanmer wrote alongside a photo of her smiling with Bergmann. “One of the few people I don’t look as pale next to. Love you and am so happy for you.”
