The Top Rising and Declining Job Titles in Marketing

Although the number of U.S. jobs in advertising, public relations, and other related services remained flat throughout 2024, the jobs themselves are changing.

When comparing the quantity of marketing-related job titles on LinkedIn user profiles in 2024 versus 2022, no position experienced more growth than “Sales Marketing Supervisor,” which increased 977%. The spike in volume suggests a greater focus on connecting revenue with a company’s promotional efforts, whether that is a TV commercial or influencer partnership.

Roles dedicated to innovation, sports, and events also rose in popularity over the past two years.

Some marketing job titles, however, have nearly vanished across the platform.

Appearances of “Small Business Consultant,” for example, decreased 95%.

Positions geared toward search engine optimization (SEO) also declined amid the ascent of AI-powered search.

Overall, the amount of U.S. jobs in advertising, public relations, and other related services climbed less than 1% in 2024, according to the latest seasonally adjusted figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

This comes after employment in the industry grew 10.5% between January 2022 and December 2023, following a drop in jobs during the pandemic.
