On October 26, northern airlines will switch to winter schedules based on IATA slot seasons. In addition to the return of numerous seasonal services on or around then, there will be many new domestic and international routes—but obviously not as many as in the summer.
Going through schedule changes suggests that 16 international US routes will take off in October, most of which will be brand-new. Many will make it into my weekly new routes newsletter, just as many that started in September did.
The USA’s 16 international route additions
They are shown below. Some 12 of the 16 links will be brand-new for the stated airline in October, while five airport pairs have never had non-stop flights before. The month starts with Philippine Airlines’ long-awaited Seattle service, which has been in the works for years.
Seattle has gained multiple new airlines this year, including Starlux, the return of China Airlines, and now Philippine Airlines, while SAS will return next year. Given the aforementioned change to the winter aviation season, many routes begin towards the end of the month.

Caveats for inclusion
As usual, various limitations have been imposed:
- The stated airline must not have served the route since 2020 unless it is materially different, such as operating non-stop rather than one-stop.
- Only the mainland US and Hawaii are considered, not US territories.
- Simple seasonal resumptions, of which there are many, are excluded.
