The Victoria’s Secret fashion show has officially returned – here’s what we know

During the height of the 90s, few fashion events were more iconic than the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

In fact, the first Victoria’s Secret fashion show was held almost 30 years ago in 1995. After becoming hugely successful in the ’90s and early 2000s, the show was cancelled in 2018 – after the company was criticised for the lack of body diversity on its runways.

“Regular people were not watching fashion shows, or models walking down the runway,” Chantal Fernandez, who co-wrote the book Selling Sexy: Victoria’s Secret and the Unraveling of an American Icon, said to ITV of the show’s original success. “It was an innovative model to bottle some of the magic of the fashion industry.”

Since 2019, in the wake of the #MeToo movement and a growing call for body inclusivity, the Victoria’s Secret fashion show has been no more – but in 2024, the brand announced that it would be bringing back the runway show, and even streaming it live on social media.

“We’ve read the comments and heard you,” it stated in an Instagram post announcing the show this year.

Hinting at some potential moves towards diversity, it added: “The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is BACK and will reflect who we are today, plus everything you know and love — the glamour, runway, wings, musical entertainment, and more! Stay tuned… it only gets more iconic from here.”

Who is walking in this year’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show?

For one thing, it’s the first show in six years. Plus, the likes of Tyra Banks, Ashley Graham, Gigi Hadid, Taylor Hill and Adriana Lima are all set to make an appearance.

Banks was once a staple of the Victoria’s Secret shows and she made her last runway appearance in 2005 — until now, of course. “I never in a million years thought that I would be back on the runway, but I am so beyond excited and so ready for this,” she told Harper’s Bazaar.
