‘The View’ host likens Jan. 6 riot to World War II, Holocaust: ‘Worst moments’

“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin on Monday likened the events of Jan. 6, 2021 to the “worst events” in American history, specifically referencing World War II and the Holocaust.

Her remark came as the hosts discussed the four-year anniversary of the riot at the U.S. Capitol. Congress on Monday successfully certified the November election victory of President-elect Donald Trump.

“I think we need to find moral clarity in this country,” Hostin said during the show. “I just remember after January 6th, you have someone like Mitch McConnell placing the blame on January 6th where it belongs, squarely on Donald Trump’s shoulders.”

She continued by suggesting some began to “backtrack” the events of Jan. 6, 2021 and call to “move on” from it.

I say no,” Hostin said. “You don’t move on because January 6th was an atrocity. It was one of the worst moments in American history.”

“When you think about the worst moments in American history, like World War II, things that happened like the Holocaust, chattel slavery,” she added. “We need to never forget because past becomes prologue.”

Conservative strategist Scott Jennings said on CNN such statements are overly hyperbolic.

“”Already, today, we have heard some people in other venues say extraordinarily unhinged and vile things, comparing Jan. 6th to the Holocaust, to slavery, to World War II,” he said. “I think we need to arrange our feelings and control ourselves accordingly here and not go off the deep end.”

Hostin in September also suggested on the talk show that Vice President Kamala Harris had “always been moderate” despite her previously earning the ranking of “most liberal” senator from a nonpartisan transparency organization.

“I think she’s always been moderate,” Hostin said. “She is a former prosecutor. Prosecutors generally are not, like, into crime, they don’t like criminals.”
