The week in sports – My Southborough

Algonquin Titans scored more wins than losses last week.

ARHS Field Hockey is still undefeated with a 7-0 record. The team’s most recent wins were 5-1 over Shrewsbury and 3-2 over Wachusett.

The Community Advocate quoted one of the team’s star players, senior Lindsey Brown’s explanation for their success:

It’s been nice because almost our entire team is returning, so we’ve had two seasons to really figure out what works well for us. It’s really showing this year, I think, which is really awesome. We’ve had some new players who have really stepped it up

In Soccer, the Boys showed real improvement last week, shutting out both Wachusett and Nashoba 3-0 last week. Their record is now 3-2-2 for the season. The Girls had truly mixed results, adding to their record a tie (Wachusett 3-3), win (Nashoba 1-0), and loss (Concord-Carlisle 4-1). They now stand at 2-4-1.

Last week, Boys Golf won two meets (Grafton 200-201 and Leominster 199-207). But they also lost to Westborough, 190-193. Their record improved overall to 3-5.

In Cross Country, the Boys team won their second meet, beating Westborough 21-38. They went on to place 5th for small schools in the Manchester Invitational on Saturday. The Girls lost their Westborough meet 24-32. (And with only three runners in the invitational, they weren’t scored as a school.)

After a promising start to the season, Girls Volleyball has been on a four game losing streak. Last week, they were shutout by Westborough and Lincoln-Sudbury. They now stand at 3-4 for the season.

Football didn’t play last week. They’ll host Grafton this Friday.

Now, here are the ARHS varsity games on tap for this week:
