The week in sports – My Southborough

Last week, Algonquin Field Hockey added two more teams to the list of ones they’ve bested this fall —  Nashoba and Grafton. The undefeated ARHS Titans ranked #2 out of 43 teams in the first release of MIAA’s Division 1 Power Rankings this fall.

Three meets in, Titans Boys Cross Country is also undefeated. Their most recent win was over Wachusett. Over the weekend, the Titans competed in the Ocean State Invitational, where they placed 8th out of 38 for Varsity 1.

The Girls Cross Country team hasn’t been doing quite as well. They lost to Wachusett last week, updating their record to 1-2.

In Soccer, the Boys D1 Team was Power Ranked #34 (of 59) and the Girls #29 (of 32). Both rankings predated losses on Saturday.

The Boys lost to Bromfield 4-2. Earlier in the week they had added a 3-0 win over Westborough to their record, improving it to 4-3-2. The Girls also beat Westborough (3-1) before losing to Hopkinton (1-0). They are at 3-5-1.

This week may be a rougher one for both teams. The Boys are scheduled to face #13 Leominster and #5 St. John’s. The Girls’ adversaries include #6 Bishop Feehan.

Girls Volleyball won two and lost one in last week’s games, improving their record to 5-5. The girls were ranked #11 for Division 2, prior to their 3-2 win over #8 Hopkinton

Gonk Football was #20 in the D2 Power Rankings. That pre-dates their third game on Friday, which was their second loss. Grafton beat them 49-14.

It is worth highlighting that they were apparently up against an undefeated powerhouse. MaxPreps covered:

Fans of the Gators have seen this all before: every one of the games they’ve played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

The Titans will hope to have a better outcome at this Friday’s away game in Shrewsbury. The Colonials have yet to score a win this fall.

Boys Golf’s record has continued to worsen. They are now 3-7-1 after losing to Acton-Boxborough and Wachusett, before tying with Nashoba last week.

Now, here are the ARHS varsity games on tap for this week:
