The week in sports – My Southborough

Last week was a good one for most Algonquin Titans athletes and fans.

Girls Volleyball is on a 4 game winning streak, improving their record to 8-5. Last week, they beat Framingham, Wachusett, and Nashoba. They moved up the Division 2 rankings to #9.

They aren’t the only team showing improvement.

On Friday, Gonk Football scored its second win, 36-28 over Shrewsbury. (That wasn’t included in the latest D2 rankings, which kept them steady at #20.)

The Titans complete the comeback, down 21 with less than 2 minutes to go! Back to back onside recoveries set up a last minute touchdown to send the game to overtime where the Titans score and get a huge stop to win the game!

In Soccer, the Boys beat Leominster 5-0, helping them move up from #34 to #31 for D1. That was before Saturday’s 1-0 win over #3 St. John’s. Their record is now 6-3-2. The Girls also beat Leominster (2-0) then faced a #3 ranked competitor. They didn’t overcome the odds, losing 3-1 to Bishop Feehan. They are now ranked #25 with a 4-6-1 record.

Titans Field Hockey is still undefeated 12 games into the season. But MIAA still dropped the team two spots to #4 in the latest Division 1 Power Rankings. This Thursday, the girls’ mettle will be tested when they face #2 Lincoln-Sudbury.

Results from today’s Boys Golf lost to Shrewsbury last week, but their results from playing Marlborough this afternoon aren’t posted yet. And no results are posted for Girls Cross Country’s performance at Wachusett’s Invitational over the weekend.
