World
The World Naked Bike Ride is rolling back into New Orleans. Here’s when they’ll bare it all.
Attention World Naked Bike Ride participants: It’s time to begin considering your attire for the 2024 roll.
You could select a Speedo, of course, a scant bikini, or a couple of Band-Aids. Strategically applied glitter or body paint is always popular. And then there’s the classic Crown Royal bag.
Finally, some of you may wish to adopt the less-is-more option of pedaling entirely au naturel. By custom, WNBR cyclists are encouraged to appear “As bare as you dare.”
The World Naked Bike Ride is an international event meant to call attention to the vulnerability of bicyclists, who often feel unseen or unheeded in traffic. The riders’ anatomical exposure symbolizes their exposure to danger. The credo of the annual, head-turning ride is “Can You See Me Now?”
For the past 16 years, New Orleans has conducted its version of the event, which typically draws hundreds of underdressed cyclists. Needless to say, the raw ride also draws an army of encouraging onlookers along the length of the route, who are asked to neither crowd nor touch the participants.
According to the WNBR Facebook page, this year’s ride will take place on June 8 at 4 p.m. (Note, this is one hour earlier than originally scheduled). No exact route has been announced, but the tour typically begins in Mickey Markey Park and travels upriver to the heart of the French Quarter, then circles back to its starting point.
