The World of Dark Knights of Steel Finds New Hope in a Shocking Character
The world of Dark Knights of Steel is about to step into a whole new era, and it’s all thanks to one fan-favorite DC icon.
“Chapter One: The Deathstroke” finds the titular character (also known as Slade Wilson), venturing into rough, icy seas of the cursed realm of Jarnlünd at the behest of none other than the warlord Vandal Savage. After surviving a roving Kraken and everything else that Jarnlünd has to throw at him, Slade comes face-to-face with his ex-wife, Adeline. While this unexpected reunion is shocking on its own, it is nothing compared to the revelation that color has been brought back to the once black-and-white realm in the form of one young Alec Holland.

The swords and sorcery-laden reality of Earth 118 was introduced in the pages of 2022’s Dark Knights of Steel #1 by Tom Taylor and Yasmine Putri. Comprised of various kingdoms and realms, Earth 118 is replete with medieval versions of DC fans’ favorite characters including Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. The original Dark Knights of Steel saga also included Amanda Waller, who helped launch an assault on the world’s premier kingdoms and their rulers on behalf of an invading army of malevolent White Martians.
Ahead of the release of Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter #1, artist Tirso said of the original series, “Dark Knights of Steel was one of my favorite reads; it combines a super-attractive universe with an unbeatable team dynamic.” Of joining the new series, Tirso added, “Working as a team with Jay, in this universe, has been one of my best professional experiences so far… As a creator, it’s always both fun and challenging to play outside the mainstream canon. The freedom that DC has given me and my teammates has made this trip really special.”
