There’s No New GTA 6 Trailer In 2024, But Rockstar Has Re-Released The First Trailer Again, This Time In Higher Quality
This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.
Even though there’s not going to be a new Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer before the end of 2024, Rockstar has a different kind of surprise in store: a higher-quality version of the original trailer, unearthed on Chinese social media site BiliBili. The new trailer is viewable via MP1st, and while it’s not noticeably different in terms of content, the higher-definition upload has revealed new details about the characters and world of the game that weren’t noticeable in the original version.
Although uploaded just over a year ago, alongside the YouTube version of the GTA 6 trailer released on the same day, the high-quality version was only recently found by GTA fans desperate for some news on the most anticipated game of 2025. It may not be the fully new trailer they had hoped for, but it is something, and provides a great deal of new information on the upcoming sequel – if fans only know where to look.
While The Trailer May Not Be New, The Quality Makes A World Of Difference
What Players Are Noticing About The Reuploaded GTA 6 Trailer
Videos uploaded on YouTube (and most social media sites) generally undergo some form of compression to reduce their file sizes. So even when you’re watching the GTA 6 trailer on YouTube in 4K, you may not be getting the full picture – small details, like the ones discussed below, may become pixelated or blurry by the time they reach your screen. BiliBili, though, is apparently free of compression, so videos uploaded there don’t take nearly as much of a hit to quality. As a result, many of the finer details lost to YouTube’s compression in the original upload are fully intact in the BiliBili version.

GTA 6 Has Some Major Competition In 2025, And It’s Not What You Think
While Grand Theft Auto 6 is almost guaranteed to be the best-selling game of 2025, it has major competition from a highly-anticipated open-world game.
Many players, like TheBishopDeeds, wondered why Rockstar didn’t make the high-quality trailer available outside BiliBili in the first place. Although there’s no way around YouTube’s compression, uploading the trailer to any other platform – say, Vimeo or Rockstar’s own website – would allow more players to access a clean, crisp version of the trailer without going out of their way.
Whatever the reason, though, the new trailer is a welcome surprise. This comes amid now debunked rumors of a new GTA 6 trailer being released before the end of 2024, perhaps to coincide with the anniversary of the original trailer’s release. It’s really the only sliver of GTA 6 news we’ve gotten this entire year, which is saying something, considering the game is due to be released in 2025. Naturally, that means fans have gone wild over the details, extracting as much information as they can from the scant few pixels provided by the higher-quality trailer.
Our Take: This Might Not Be What Fans Wanted, But Theories Have Run Wild
Jason’s Bumper Stickers, Lucia’s Acne Scars, & Bikini Girl’s Identity
The higher-quality trailer has given rise to three main theories, which we’ll look at in order from (in my opinion) least to most compelling. The first, contained in a Reddit post by Ray_T9L, points to acne scars visible on Lucia’s forehead in the trailer. This isn’t exactly a gameplay or story-relevant theory, but it does suggest that GTA 6‘s graphics could set a new bar for video game realism – but that’s hardly surprising for Rockstar.
Others, like Phastic on Reddit, have suggested that the trailer’s new fidelity makes it clearer than ever that the infamous “Bikini Girl” is probably not Lucia, as she looks markedly different in the higher-quality version. This theory was already widely contested, as the two really don’t look that much alike, but the new evidence is compelling. The jury’s still out on her true identity, though.
And finally, a post from MotorBicycle provides a closer look at the bumper stickers on Jason’s car in the trailer. Many of these seem to suggest Jason identifies himself as a “cranky hippie,” with peace signs plastered on the back of his car. More revealingly, though, he has two bumper stickers referencing a character that appears to be named Andrew Bode, and both are overwhelmingly negative. One is a simple “no” sign with Bode’s name crossed out, and the other calls for his arrest. This led the OP to suggest that Bode might be a corrupt politician in GTA 6 who causes issues for the protagonists.
Still, a lot of these remain theories – the amount of new information available is pretty miniscule, and doesn’t amount to much. But in the absence of a trailer, it’s probably the best news on Grand Theft Auto 6 we can expect to get this year.
