These are the five family-fun themes at this year’s month-long Zeelmania
ZEELAND — Zeelmania, a series of family-friendly activities on Mondays in July, will return for a third year downtown, according to a release from Zeeland Festivals.
The event will run 6-8 p.m. every Monday from July 1-29.
The program was established to provide locals with something interesting and fun to do on a weekday, director of events Lynnette Lam told The Sentinel.
Themes and activities differ each week, ranging from live performances to food stalls to music to a petting zoo. Lam told The Sentinel she’s excited to bring together different groups, people and ideas.
It all starts at 6 p.m. July 1 with a color explosion on the corner of Elm Street and Main Avenue. Participants are encouraged to wear white and non-stainable clothing to enjoy the color powder games. There will be inflatable courses, face painting and live performances from Grand Rapids Entertainment Group.

The theme for July 8 is the Summer Olympics, where attendees can participate in obstacle courses, rock climbing and archery. That precedes a Wild West theme on July 15, with line dancing in the streets led by the West Michigan Boot Scooters.
The penultimate event on July 22, Community Hero Night, will give attendees a chance to thank local heroes. Then, on July 29, the Summer Finale holds the possibility of surprise return guests, face painting, petting zoos, obstacle courses and food.
