These will be the top trends of 2025, according to an expert

The holidays are in a few short days, and before we know it, we’ll be ringing in a new year. This means it’s time to follow the old adage, “out with the old and in with the new,” but it can be hard to predict what new trends and products we should leave behind and which ones we should adopt for 2025.

Luckily, Sarah Eggenberger, TODAY contributor and Senior Editor-at-Large at NewBeauty, stopped by TODAY to share the most-searched beauty, fashion and lifestyle trends of the year ahead — and all the products we’ll need to get in on them.

From muted-colored clothing items and matte lips to implementing the use of infrared technology into your skin care and wellness routine, she’s got you covered in all areas of fashion, beauty and wellness. Check out everything you’ll be sure to see taking over next year below!

Fashion color of 2025: Moonstone Gray

In 2024, pink was the “it” color for our wardrobe, appearing on red carpets and taking over the accessories world. From water bottles to Crocs, the flashier shade was seen everywhere — and was a rather “strong look,” according to Eggenberger.

Moonstone gray lies on a different side of the color palette, offering a more elegant “timelessness” that takes “precedence over anything that makes too obvious of a statement,” says Eggenberger.

J.Crew Cashmere Wrap

If the theme of this roundup is comfy and cozy, then this scarf fits right in. Made entirely out of cashmere, it promises to keep you warm when layering up on cold winter days.

J.Crew Ribbed Tech-Touch Gloves

A “signature shade” in outerwear according to Eggenberger, these gloves were made with cozy materials like wool and alpaca meant to keep your hands warm. You can also easily use your phone with this pair, thanks to the “tech-friendly fingertips,” according to the brand.

Quince Mongolian Cashmere Ribbed Beanie

Our editors love Quince’s Mongolian Cashmere line — calling it “soft,” high-quality and luxury without the expensive price. This beanie features a ribbed texture, as well as a cuff that folds over to your desired length.

Target A New Day Long Sleeve Midi Sweater Dress

A sweater dress is a simple and casual clothing item that helps you remain comfortable, while looking chic. Described as “totally versatile” by Eggenberger, this one-and-done item is great because it can be dressed up or down.

Steve Madden Stratus Grey Suede Boots

“Stylish, practical and warm” are the words used by Eggenberger when describing these boots (and they pair well with the dress above!).

The 3.25 inch heel provides enough stability when walking in snow while still having a dressed-up feel.

Spanx AirEssentials Long Sleeve Wide Leg Jumpsuit

This jumpsuit is “equal parts flattering, stylish and comfortable,” says senior partnerships editor, Francesca Cocchi Zabloudil, of this Shop TODAY 2024 Travel Gear Awards winner.

It’s made with the brands ultra soft, super stretchy fabric, that helps it be suitable and comfortable enough for an airplane seat or your office desk.

Ugg Ansley Shoes

Ugg’s signature wool lines the interior of this slipper, while water-resistant suede outfits the exterior, making them perfect for padding around the house or outside to let the dog out or check the mail.

Anthropologie Sanctuary Cropped Faux-Fur Coat

The term “faux fur-lined jacket” had a search volume boost of 160% over the past 90 days. Rather than being lined with fur, this one’s interior is outfitted with polyester, but it has a plush faux fur exterior, two pockets and is even machine washable.

Mango Wool Suit Jacket

This blazer-like jacket can double as outerwear or an office-appropriate outfit, thanks to its sleek silhouette and wool fabric. It has a more form-fitting cut, and a chest pocket for smaller necessities. Eggenberger calls it “effortlessly elevated,” helping to make any outfit you pair it with just the same.

Levi’s Baggy Dad Jeans

“Jeans are a way to show the casual side of the humble gray trend,” says Eggenberger, adding that this is a good staple to invest in to help the trend have longevity in your wardrobe.

This mid-rise pair from Levi’s has a looser fit in the hip and thighs, that Eggenberger suggests pairing with “quiet-luxury tops and sweaters” for an “effortless cool look.”

Zara TRF High Rise Wide Leg Jeans

“This style can invigorate your denim collection,” says Eggenberger. This affordable pair of jeans will quickly become a staple, proving to be “high quality and flattering” on any body shape and size.

Athleta Venice High Rise Cargo Jogger

“Add a little more style” to a casual outfit when wearing these cargo pant joggers, suggests Eggenberger. Cargo sweatpants hit a search traffic volume of 100% over the past 90 days, according to Google Trends.

Beauty Trend of 2025: Velvet Lips

This past year was all about juicy, shiny lips, according to Eggenberger. In 2025, a more velvety, blurred look will become the norm, thanks to more matte lipsticks.

Merit Signature Lip Lightweight Lipstick

Available in two different sets of colors (eight matte shades and nine satin ones), this buildable, “non-drying” lipstick promises to be lightweight on the lips.

Nars Powermatte High-Intensity Lip Pencil

With 12-hour staying power according to the brand, this lip pencil is available in 13 different shades of red, pink, brown and other warm tones.

Rare Beauty Lip Soufflé Matte Lip Cream

This lip product goes on creamy and dries matte, to leave lips with a “soft blurring effect,” according to the brand. It’s available in 15 different shades, some of which include vitamin E to nourish and soften the lips.

Chanel Rogue Allure Liquid Velvet

Acting as a “second skin” on the lips, this “intense” lip color works overtime to hydrate your pout thanks to the key ingredient of hyaluronic acid.

Jason Wu Beauty Hot Fluff Lipstick

This multi-use beauty product can be applied on the lips, cheeks and eyelids for a cohesive makeup look. It’s available in 14 shades, including pops of pink, neutral nudes and more.

Wellness trend: Infrared tools

In 2024, cold plunges were everywhere. Whether you invested in one yourself or simply saw influencers brave them on your social media feeds, Eggenberger says this became the “ultimate ritual” users relied on for “boosting energy and mental clarity.”

In 2025, however, it’s all about warming up. Infrared tools incorporate the use of red light therapy to target a range of goals: reducing the signs of anti-aging, repairing skin cells, or even supporting skin elasticity. While they’re a splurge up front, at-home devices make it easier than ever to have a spa-like experience at home.

Solawave Neck and Chest Rejuvenating Mask

The neck and the chest are two areas of the body that tend to show aging the fastest, according to Eggenberger. This mask hopes to even out skin tone in both areas, resolving hyperpigmentation and reducing fine lines.

Omnilux Contour Face

For a low effort anti-aging skin care routine, this face mask takes away the need for multiple products and does the work all while you relax.

Implementing the use of red light therapy, this mask should be used at least three times a week for 10 minutes at a time. According to the brand, results can be seen after four to six weeks.

Omnilux Contour Gloves

This device focuses on the hands rather than the face, using red light therapy to assist with joint pain and improve the appearance of hands.

Heat Healer Infrared Sauna Blanket

We’ll admit — this product is a splurge, but it’s a new take on the ordinary sauna experience one would typically get at the gym or spa, says Eggenberger.

Let it power on and warm up for about 20 minutes, then simply drape it over yourself like a blanket for 30 minutes to see results that include a better night’s sleep, glowing skin and a calmer mind, all while burning calories, according to the brand.

Higher Dose Infrared PEMF Go Mat

Whether you use this draped along your office chair while working from home, or over the couch while watching TV, the red light in this device works to give cells “a boost of energy,” says Eggenberger.

You can even take it on the go, thanks to a portable carrying case.
