This Beats Ad Gives Kim Kardashian the Soundtrack to Her Glam Life
While leading the glamorous life of a media and fashion mogul, Kim Kardashian has at her disposal “a handsome mobile DJ providing a perfect track for every room” she enters.
Of course she does.
That the music-cueing minion happens to be comedian Ben Marshall provides a knowing wink that runs through the latest long-form ad for Beats by Dre.
The work, from creative agency Mirimar, is another example of Kardashian slyly poking fun at her globally famous persona while promoting a partner (Beats) and, though fleetingly, her own merchandise empire (Skims).
The campaign touts the redesigned Beats Pill speaker, now available in light and dark gray—a la Kardashian’s favorite muted pallet—and marks the third collab between the brand and the billionaire entrepreneur.
“Music is a big part of my everyday life, from morning gym sessions to creative brainstorms,” according to Kardashian, “and the Beats Pill makes it that much more beautiful.”
An edited day in the life
Marshall, an actor-writer with the Please Don’t Destroy sketch comedy trio on Saturday Night Live (SNL,) narrates the fly-on-the-wall video and sets its tone of low-key, self-deprecating humor.
In the opening scene, while Kardashian snoozes in her comfy bed, Marshall rises “with the songbirds, before the first light of dawn,” he says in the voice-over, waiting to greet her as soon as she opens her eyes.
“Good morning, my favorite assistant, did you stand well?” she asks him without a trace of irony.
The story gives viewers a well-manicured peek into Kardashian’s business decisions and workout routine, with Marshall providing the soundtrack throughout the day and referring to her as a “goddess.” Eventually, they end up at the pool, where she lounges on a chair. Marshall, meantime, wades in the water with two Beats Pills overhead to give her the optimal sound.
Though his devotion is obvious, it’s non-transferable. There’s a disclaimer in the video’s final frame that says “Pill assistant not included” with the purchase.
Beats kicked off its deal with Kardashian in 2022 with special edition Beats Fit Pro in neutral colors, which became the brand’s best-selling collaboration and sold out on Apple.com.
