This Cape Cod inn was just named the top inn in the U.S. by Travel + Leisure. Here’s why

O Captain! My Captain! Our fearful trip is done, your inn the top spot it has won.

The Candleberry Inn, a Massachusetts inn once owned by a sea captain, was ranked first place on the magazine Travel + Leisure list of readers’ 15 favorite inns in the continental U.S. of 2024. It’s the second time this year it has been put at the top of a prestigious list.

The inn was also ranked at No. 30 for the best 500 hotels in the world by Travel + Leisure.

The list was based off a 2024 survey taken by over 186,000 T+L readers, with more than 700,000 votes cast across over 8,700 properties comprised of resort hotels, city hotels, inns or safari lodges.

Candleberry Inn on Cape Cod

The Candleberry’s entry on the list has a cozy description of the inn atmosphere, saying that voters called the property beautiful, the staff welcoming and the entire experience comforting.

“The Cape Cod property is as classic as they come: a stately white clapboard colonial with black shutters and an American flag billowing. Some parts of the main property date all the way back to 1780, and the look and feel is traditional and polished, but not uptight,” the entry said.

This is far from the first accolade the Candleberry has received. Earlier this year, the Candleberry was named best bed-and-breakfast/inn in the country by TripAdvisor. It was the second year in the row it made the top of TripAdvisor’s list.
