The accolades keep pouring in for Fort Myers Brewing Co.

The Gateway brewery medaled at the 2024 World Beer Cup during an April 24 ceremony at The Venetian in Las Vegas.

Its Chocolate Stout won silver in the global competition in the chocolate beer category.

“We’re overjoyed by this incredible honor,” owners Rob and Jen Whyte said in a news release. “Our Chocolate Stout is a labor of love, crafted with passion and dedication. Winning silver at the World Beer Cup is a testament to the hard work of our team and the support of our amazing patrons.”

Fifty-two beers from around the world were entered in that category with a Winter Dunkel from Whistler Brewing in Whistler, Canada, taking gold. Table Talk Brownie Lava Pie Stout from Wormtown Brewery in Worcester, Massachusetts, took the bronze.

In March, Chocolate Stout won a bronze medal at the 2024 Best Florida Beer Brewer’s Ball in Tampa. The brewery, which recently celebrated its 11th anniversary, was also named Florida’s Best Large Brewery at that time.

This is Fort Myers Brewing’s fourth medal in the World Beer Cup competition. The Chocolate Stout — with its lovely chocolate flavor and subtle hints of dark roasted coffee — took gold at the 2022 event and silver at last year’s awards ceremony. Its Somebody Else’s Dream chocolate beer won silver in 2018.

A total of 2,060 breweries from 50 countries competed in the 2024 World Beer Cup, often called the Olympics of beer competition. The 290 judges from 37 countries assessed 9,300 beers entered in 110 styles.

The World Beer Cup was established by the Brewers Association in 1996. For more information, go to worldbeercup.org.

Fort Myers Brewing was the only local brewery to medal. Barrie Haus Beer Co. in Tampa won gold for its Bublina in the Bohemian-style pilsner category. A silver went to Crooked Can Brewing’s Space Cowboi in Winter Garden, while bronze medals were awarded to Orlando Lager from Winter Garden’s New York Beer Project — Orlando in American-style lager and Night Strike from Leader Brewing in Palm Bay in the non-alcohol beer category.
