This Fourth of July could set a record for travel across the United States.

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – According to AAA, nearly 71 million Americans are expected to travel for the holiday this year. Many travelers will be heading to Panama City Beach, where hotels are experiencing a booking surge.

The Holiday Inn Beach Resort is currently at 90% capacity, and management anticipates being sold out by tomorrow. The Fourth of July and Labor Day are traditionally the resort’s busiest times.

Officials at the resort say Panama City Beach has become a family tradition for many visitors.

“We have guests that come here year after year,” said Elise Whitman, executive vice president of marketing at the Holiday Inn Resort. “So, we feel like we’re their family. A lot of guests have been coming here for such a long time—for 20 to 30 years. And what a great place to be able to come.”
