This Goodwill Offshoot Is My Luxury Shopping Secret
I don’t think I’ve ever bought anything designer for full price. Whether I’m scrolling online or hitting local consignment stores, one of my favorite parts of luxury shopping is the thrill of knowing I got a good deal. Recently, a friend turned me onto my newest obsession, the latest addition to my Vestiaire Collective, The RealReal, and eBay roster: Goodwill Finds.
Surfing the Goodwill Finds website is like putting the general donation bin through a strainer; the site offers donated designer items for a fraction of the price. And you can expect a host of designer labels across the spectrum, from Chanel and Prada to the more wallet-friendly brands like Marc Jacobs and Coach.
Goodwill Finds is a particular treasure trove in the accessories department. When I lost my beloved everyday sunglasses moving apartments, I turned to the website to help me replace them. In the end, I settled on a pair of oval tortoiseshell Ray Ban shades for $66, which net me compliments every time I wear them. But beyond the basics, the site has range, from the avant garde, (like a tubular rhinestone-encrusted Alexander McQueen choker by Sarah Burton), to the everyday (hardware-laden Prada mules that could carry you through the summer), or even the extremely on-trend (Y2K-appropriate purple Christian Dior shield sunglasses).
As one does when visiting a Goodwill store, you’ll have to sift through some pieces that may have seen better days—or at least be willing to put some love into a well-worn item. (After all, shoes can be cleaned and leather bags can be rejuvenated.) But Goodwill Finds is all about seeing the potential in something that has lived a whole other life. Now, you have the chance to give it a new one.
