This new Asus ROG Strix gaming laptop has enough RGB to make your desk glow
If you like your gaming gear to look like it came straight from the neon glow of the Las Vegas strip, then you’ll love this new Asus ROG Strix gaming laptop that the company has just teased. It has a ring of bright RGB lighting that goes all round the edge and, fittingly, the new machine, which looks like it’s probably the new Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 2025, is scheduled to be launched in Vegas at CES 2025 in January 2025.
Asus is no stranger to the world of RGB lighting, as we found in our Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 review, which bathes the surface area in front of the machine in the lighting color of your choice. This new design from Asus, however, shows a complete circuit of lighting surrounding the perimeter of the laptop’s underside. Meanwhile, a recent leak also suggests that the ROG Strix Scar 18 2025 specs will feature a new Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 laptop GPU, specifically the RTX 5080 model, although other GPUs are likely to be available too.
Asus has revealed little in the way of details about the new laptop, other than a teaser on YouTube, which you can see above, and a second video in a post on X (formerly Twitter), which shows the complete underside of the machine with the circuit of RGB LEDs.
The company says the new Asus ROG Strix gaming laptop will be unveiled on Monday, January 6, at 8pm (PT), with a countdown now running on the Asus ROG website with the slogan “unlock the ROG lab.”
Other elements of the specs shown in the aforementioned leak include the use of an Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU, which is an interesting choice right now. AMD may have the best gaming CPU on the desktop right now, as we found in our recent Ryzen 7 9800X3D review, but Intel’s latest CPUs are extremely power-efficient, which makes them potentially good candidates for a laptop, even if they might not have the very best gaming performance.
According to the leak, that particular model of the ROG Strix Scar 18 also came with 32GB of DDR5 RAM and a 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, along with an 18-inch screen.
The only details officially confirmed by Asus, however, are the ring of RGB lighting around the base and the fact that it’s going to be unveiled at CES 2025 on January 6. The Scar 18 2024 model secured a place on our guide to the best gaming laptop, though, and we’re hoping this new model is even better. It certainly looks the part, if you like your RGB lighting.
