MOUNT LAUREL – A new boba tea and dessert shop is soon to open in a busy shopping center here.

The sign is up at Chaava, which is next to LA Fitness in the Village at Cambridge Crossing shopping center off Route 38 and Briggs Road. The shop, located at 4310 Dearborn Circle, is set to open where Smoothie King was once located.

The dessert shop has a soft opening planned for Sept. 12, according to one of the owners, Suttinee Yookhansawad, who also owns the popular nearby Thai restaurant Bhan Thai.

In addition to boba tea and smoothies, some of the treats Chaava plans to sell include cakes, waffles and bingsu, a milk-based Korean shaved ice dessert topped with sweet ingredients.

“Chaava is our Boba and dessert store,” Yookhansawad said in an email with the Courier Post. “Same plaza with Bhan Thai, the Mount Laurel location.”

Smoothie King closed there a few years ago, which helped create an opportunity for a new business to go in, not far from Yookhansawad’s other venture.

In addition to LA Fitness, the shopping center has Panchero’s, LaScala’s Pronto, Cold Stone Creamery, Ruby Tuesday, Chico’s, AAA, New Balance store and others.

It’s located along Route 38, near Rowan College at Burlington County.

The business is close to Interstate 295 as well, and other busy shopping areas such as Centerton Square, which includes a Target, Wegmans, Costco and Top Golf nearby. It’s also about 3 miles from Moorestown Mall and the East Gate shopping center.
