This Planet Fitness Insider Reduced Their Stake By 40%

From what we can see, insiders were net sellers in Planet Fitness, Inc.’s (NYSE:PLNT ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders sold the stock in greater numbers than they purchased it.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Planet Fitness Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the insider, Christopher Rondeau, sold US$2.4m worth of shares at a price of US$66.55 per share. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$63.25. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it’s not too bad (but it’s still not a positive). Christopher Rondeau was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Insider Ownership Of Planet Fitness

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Planet Fitness insiders own about US$17m worth of shares. That equates to 0.3% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it’s enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

So What Do The Planet Fitness Insider Transactions Indicate?

It doesn’t really mean much that no insider has traded Planet Fitness shares in the last quarter. We don’t take much encouragement from the transactions by Planet Fitness insiders.
