‘Threats of violence’ – Son of ex-F1 champ forced to explain viral Saints clip

Former Southampton employee Hugo Scheckter has been forced to explain his viral video following ‘threats of violence’ after the club’s 5-0 defeat to Brentford.

The Saints suffered their 16th defeat of the season on Saturday to leave them ten points adrift of safety after 20 games played.

With just one win all campaign, the south coast outfit – rooted to the bottom of the table – look destined for an immediate return to the Championship.

Scheckter, who worked at St Mary’s as a Player/Team Liaison Officer between October 2014 – February 2018, attended the defeat to the Bees with his mother Clare.

Hugo, whose dad Jody is Africa’s only Formula 1 world champion, enjoyed a matchday hospitality experience with his mum.

Part of the experience included guessing the right score, with the winner gifted a prize by a player following the full-time whistle.

And Clare, who Hugo joked ‘knows nothing about football’ in his X post, correctly predicted Thomas Frank’s side would run out 5-0 winners.

Her son filmed her joyous reaction after being informed she was the winner, where she celebrated with raising her fists in the air, before holding up a Saints scarf on her way to be presented with a shirt by striker Adam Armstrong.

As she made her way to meet the ex-Newcastle man, Hugo jokingly booed her, with other fans joining in on the light-hearted theatrics, while some even clapped.

Hugo, who previously worked for Brentford between December 2022 – January 2024 – first as their Interim Head of Player Care & Welfare before becoming a Football Consultant – shared what he thought was an innocent clip on social media.

But the comments were soon flooded by negative and nasty messages from angry Southampton supporters, leading Scheckter – founder of the The Player Care Group – to issue a follow-up post.

He said: “A few clarifications as I’m getting some negativity (as well as some threats of violence which is insane).

“I posted a video of my mum celebrating after randomly guessing a score in a club organised competition.

“My mum picked a random score, she doesn’t follow football and could have easily as picked the 5-0 Saints win.

“I have no animosity towards Southampton, nor am I a fan- I had a wonderful 3.5 years at the club, but I worked at both clubs in yesterday’s game and so was truly neutral.

“I don’t know Adam and he wasn’t the focus for the post. Had my mum not won the competition, it’s not something I would have filmed.

“I started the booing as my mum won a prize for predicting the home team would lose.

“The abusive comments from Saints fans blaming me or my family for this result don’t reflect the warm and friendly fan base I got to know when I was at the club.
