Three Tri-Lakes baseball teams to play for sectional crown | News, Sports, Jobs

SARANAC LAKE — All three Tri-Lakes varsity baseball teams will be vying for their respective sectional titles this week.

The Saranac Lake baseball team will take on the Saranac Central Spartans in the Section VII, Class B championship today at the at SUNY Plattsburgh’s Chip Cummings field. Lake Placid will look to defend its crown in the Section VII, Class D matchup against the Bolton Eagles Wednesday at the same venue. Both games will kick off at 4:30 p.m.

The Tupper Lake baseball team aims for its second sectional title in three seasons at 5 p.m. Wednesday at St. Lawrence University’s Tom Fay Field in Potsdam. The top seeded Lumberjacks will face the winner of No. 3 St. Lawrence vs. No. 2 Brushton-Moira in the Section X, Class C matchup. The semifinal game was slated to take place on Monday.

This past Friday, the Red Storm upset the Northeastern Clinton Cougars 7-4 on the road to advance to the championship game.

Cedar Rivers tossed a complete game and had nine strikeouts in the win. Offensively, Saranac Lake was led by Adam Lewis and Chayse Delosh, who had two hits each. The team had nine totals hits.

The top seeded Spartans defeated the Red Storm 10-2 in their lone matchup on May 7.

In Class D, the Blue Bombers have dominated their Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference opponents, winning its 25th straight league game on Saturday. The team defeated the Crown Point Panthers 14-4 to advance to the title game for the second year in a row.

Lake Placid, which is currently 13-2 overall, defeated Bolton 9-3 on April 26.

The Lumberjacks also finished the regular season with a perfect 12-0 record in league play. The team lost just two games this season, both of which came against Section VII opponents.

With just three teams in Section X, Class C, Tupper Lake recieved a first round bye and an automatic berth to the sectional championship game.

The Lumberjacks swept both the Brushton-Moira Panthers and the St. Lawrence Larries this season. The team topped the Panthers 18-1 on April 24 and 14-2 on May 11. They beat the Larries 22-0 on April 16 and 14-0 on May 3.
