Thrift store business increases over the wintertime

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – The wintertime and Christmas create the perfect opportunity for businesses to make more money. This is true for thrift stores too, which experience an increase in donations. The Arc store manager Natalie Krein said she typically sees this increase before and after Christmas.

“We get a lot of donations after Christmas when people go to probably put it away and different things that way, they change their mind and we get a lot before Christmas when they start to put up their decorations, trees, different things that way, and if they’ve decided on something else,” Krein said.

She said there is a major difference in business between summer and winter.

“The summer isn’t as busy, obviously because of the rummage sales and just people busy doing other things,” said Krein. “Usually, it starts about September when school starts up again and we are busiest September through the end of December.”

She said most of their sales and donations during the winter are clothing.
