Tibbs’ Career Day Sends Noles to College World Series – Florida State University

TALLAHASSEE – ACC Player of the Year James Tibbs III broke an 8-8 tie in the top of the 12th inning with his third home run of the day, leading Florida State (47-15) to a 10-8 victory over UConn (35-26) in Game 2 of the Tallahassee Super Regional.

The Seminoles advance to the 2024 College World Series, marking the 24th appearance in program history and first since 2019.

Trailing 2-0 in the third inning, Tibbs tied the game with a two-run home run, his first of the postseason. Tibbs gave FSU a 4-2 lead with a two-run blast in the fifth inning, a shot that was quickly followed by Marco Dinges’ solo home run for a 5-2 FSU lead.

The back-and-forth affair continued in the middle innings, with the Huskies hitting a two-run home run off Jamie Arnold in the bottom of the fifth and taking the lead on a three-run double in the sixth inning.

Leading off the bottom of the eighth, Jaxson West hit his second home run of the season, knotting the game at 7-7.

In the top of the ninth, the Seminoles went ahead after Drew Faurot hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Jordan Williams to give FSU an 8-7 lead. UConn tied the game with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the ninth, sending the contest to extra innings.

Arnold struck out nine batters in 5.1 innings. Conner Whittaker picked up the win, his fifth of the season, working 3.2 innings, facing 12 batters, striking out three and giving up one hit. He sent FSU to the College World Series with his third strikeout, improving to 5-0 on the year.
