The North Allegheny girls’ soccer team earned a 2-0 senior night victory over Pine-Richland Monday night from Newman Stadium. The win places the Tigers in a tie for second place in the section standings with the Rams.
With a steady rain falling throughout the contest, both teams started slow, but the North Allegheny offensive attack turned up the heat with roughly 20 minutes left in the half. The Tigers scored on a goal from junior Averie Bierker, who found the back of the net through traffic in the box.
In the second half with about 30 minutes left, the Rams fouled the Tigers in the nearside corner, and junior Ava Hutter took full advantage. Fellow junior Emma Schupansky set up Hutter on the free kick, which essentially mirrored a corner kick. Hutter took a deflection and hit twine on the nearside post. Though they didn’t show up on the scoresheet, North Allegheny had strong play by seniors Aubrey Wells, Elliana Vitale, Kylie Dutkovich, Izzy Costa and sophomore Mia Barsotti.
