North Allegheny took on the Pine-Richland Rams on Monday night at the Baierl Ice Complex in a rematch of the Penguins Cup Championship from a year ago. The Tigers got off to a hot start jumping out to a 3-0 lead and holding on for the 3-1 victory over the Rams.
It was a slow start offensively with neither team finding the back of the net until Gianni Lochiatto scored off an assist from Johnnie Castillo with under three minutes left in the opening period to give the Tigers the 1-0 lead. NA would strike twice quickly in the second period, getting a goal from Tommy Vidra assisted by William Kasunich a little over three minutes into the period. Three minutes later, North Allegheny would expand the lead to 3-0 when Kasunich scored assisted by Marc Joyson.
Pine-Richland would show some fight in the third period when Josh Lanyard scored three minutes in but that would be as close as the Rams got as Cam Junker and the Tiger defense held it down the rest of the way to finish off the 3-1 win.
Junker made 21 saves.
North Allegheny improves to 5-2 overall. Pine-Richland falls to 3-6. The Tigers are back in action next Monday when they host Upper St. Clair at the Baierl Ice Complex. This game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcasted on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
