Timothée’s Beyblade was the most important fashion news this week

Yes, John Galliano might’ve left Margiela, and Louise Trotter might’ve joined Bottega, and Matthieu Blazy is now the creative director of Chanel – but did you see Timothée Chalamet’s Beyblade? That’s what I wanna talk about! This week, the US actor arrived at the LA premiere of his new Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown in a buttery black blazer dotted with pin badges, and in his right hand clasped an unexpected addition to the look: a small silver Beyblade. On the red carpet, the 28-year-old actor was a dead ringer for someone half his age, gripping the iconic Japanese toy while sporting a wispy tache on his upper lip. Chalamet also had a pair of sunglasses with Bob Dylan scrawled on the lenses in white paint – a reference to Soulja Boy’s signature frames with his name written across them – but it was the Beyblade that ultimately stole the show. Is Timmy making the case for 2025’s hottest new fashion accessory? Let’s wait and see if it catches on.

In other equally important fashion news, it has actually been a huge week for creative director maneuvres. First up, Dries Van Noten (the brand) announced the appointment of Julian Klausner as its new creative director, the former right-hand man of Dries Van Noten (the man). Then Maison Margiela’s John Galliano left the label after a decade, so we revisited all of his greatest moments at the helm of the house. After that, Bottega Veneta announced that Matthieu Blazy would be vacating his creative director post, which was swiftly filled by former Carven designer Louise Trotter (head here for everything we know about her). And if all that wasn’t enough, just 45 minutes later, news dropped that Blazy would officially be taking up the position as creative director of Chanel

Elsewhere, Dazed Fashion’s end-of-year review officially kicked off with our 2024 Trend Report, where bag charms, bubble skirts and brats came out on top; we also looked back at the wildest fashion moments of the year, featuring sapphic snogging, piss-stained boxers and Willem Dafoe; a stash of Alexander McQueen’s old sketchbooks from the 90s and 00s sold for £20,000 at auction; plus Paul Mescal is raising money for charity by selling his Gladiator press tour wardrobe on Vinted.
