Locks

NCAA Football (0.5 Unit) Boston College +16.5 @ Florida State (-110; Odds via Caesars): 6:30 PM CT on ESPN

I’m not ready to assume that Florida State getting a wakeup call over in Ireland is going to be enough for this program to rebound in this big of a way. The Seminoles just haven’t put their collection of transfer talent together the right way, and some of the same issues that led to the Georgia Tech loss should pop back up today.

My biggest concern is with DJ Uiagalelei’s inability to push the ball downfield, or the coaching staff’s unwillingness to let him. Either way, Boston College should be able to stack the box and dare DJU to throw on what is a very experienced defense. And speaking of defense, my other concern with the Seminoles is their patchwork defense that lost a lot of talent getting run on again.

FSU was supposed to be fast and physical on defense but they were neither in Week 0, so a strong run game led by mobile QB Thomas Castellanos should have success for Boston College today. Let’s not forget that the Golden Eagles nearly sprung the upset last season in this game, falling by 2 points to a much better FSU squad, so I’m looking for them to keep it fairly close today as well.

MLB (0.6 Unit) LA Dodgers/Arizona Diamondbacks Over 8.5 (-120; Odds via Caesars): 3:10 PM CT on ARID

This series has been just ridiculous, with a ton of runs in every game, and I’m not going to expect it to stop today. These offenses are too locked in, with 19, 14, and 17 runs having been scored over the weekend. That’s not uncommon when the Dodgers and D’backs get together, as the season series is now 9-3 over today’s total with 11.8 runs on average.

The lower total today reflects Jack Flaherty starting for LA, but he hasn’t exactly been untouchable in a Dodgers uniform and the Arizona lineup has decent numbers against him. Meanwhile, I would expect the Dodgers to jump on Eduardo Rodriguez today, as they have better numbers against lefties like him and have been averaging 5.4 runs per game the past 15 games. With bullpens worn out from the weekend’s slugfest, look for these teams to continue their torrid hitting and cash another over.

Degenerates

No degenerates today.
