Tips For Sticking To New Year’s Fitness Resolutions
As many people set fitness and weight loss goals for the New Year, sticking to those resolutions can be a challenge.
Aiming to keep participants on track, fitness trainer Charlena King at the Tandy Family YMCA shared a few tips for beginners looking to start their fitness journey.
For those easing into exercise, King recommends the YMCA’s EGYM. The system offers personalized workouts and guidance through each exercise. Members are provided with a bracelet to track progress and ensure the equipment is set up to fit individual needs.
King also suggests working with a personal trainer for continued support and guidance. For those interested in machines, the YMCA offers cable machines with easy-to-follow instructions and adjustable weights.
A variety of exercises are available to target different muscle groups. For example, the seated leg curl machine helps strengthen the hamstrings, while the glute machine improves posterior chain health. King highlighted the importance of strengthening glutes, which are beneficial for both posture and injury prevention.
The lateral pull-down machine helps build upper back strength, offering relief from tension caused by sitting for long periods. King stressed the importance of setting short-term, achievable goals to stay motivated and prevent burnout.
The YMCA offers a range of programs, from fitness classes such as Pilates and boot camps to youth sports and fitness programs. Memberships are available at all Tulsa YMCA locations, and a special open house event on Jan. 11 will allow potential members to try out the facilities and kickstart their fitness resolutions for 2025.
