To Do Today: River Fit Summer Fitness Series

Wrap up summer with a series of free workout classes on the Charles River Esplanade

What?

The River Fit Summer Fitness Series offers free, outdoor fitness classes held by the Esplanade Association in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation & Recreation.

When?

Classes run weekly until the end of August. View the full schedule here.

Where?

Classes will be held at either the DCR Hatch Memorial Shell or Fiedler Field. Check the schedule for specific locations.

How much?

It’s free!

Why should I go?

Have you been itching to try a new workout class but don’t want to fork over $35 for an hour-long sweat? If so, then the Esplanade Association has you covered with its River Fit Summer Fitness Series.

Classes in the series range from walking or running with the 261 Fearless running club to sunset yoga to high-energy Zumba dance.

For show tune lovers, Broadway Burn with Hannah’s Dance Community, held Mondays at 6 pm, has participants do cardio dance to songs from popular Broadway musicals.

On Tuesdays, there is a morning and evening workout option. Join Cindy Sullivan in the morning from 10:30 to 11:30 am for Forever Fit, a full-body workout focused on the needs of older adults and workout beginners. The class combines strength training, balance, and stretching with low-impact cardio. In the evening, attend a Zumba class from 6 to 7 pm, hosted by Healthworks. The class combines “hypnotic Latin rhythms” with dance moves and interval training sessions.

Wrap up your week on Thursdays with a run/walk with 261 Fearless, from 5 to 6 pm, and a relaxing, scenic stretch at Sunset Yoga, from 6 to 7 pm.
