A Retrograde Campaign
Adversity is a teacher, an evolutionary assistant, arguably, an essential ingredient to everything that exists or has ever existed. Without something to overcome, what is there? In light of this, the idea that anyone would feel entitled to a life without some kind of adversity is naive absurdity at best. This message is brought to us by the Mercury retrograde.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). It’s the little graces, gentle joys and quiet moments that make for an extraordinary experience. You’ll get the evidence that those close to you truly care about you and your well-being.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Your private musings and fleeting judgments are like the wind — invisibly moving through your mind and changing course without a trace. You are nothing if not discreet. If you don’t want them to read you, they won’t be able to.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Possessions will be a theme. You have complex reasons for owning what you do. Even though each item tells a story, you don’t need the item to tell the story. Storage will be a theme, too, and it’s not always cheap.
SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You’ll feel like a lucky person, not because of a grand adventure or sparkling treasure but because of small, unassuming blessings woven into the fabric of your day.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). The decision to conceal your thoughts can foster mystery and allure, but it can also build walls that isolate. Let someone in. The connection comes with risk, but the understanding you gain will make it all worthwhile.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). It’s hard to say whether you were born with ambition or you got it because of all the things you saw that were just out of your reach, but right now, it’s working for you either way. You don’t always get what you strive for, but you always get something.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You’re honest about what you think and fear. What grows from this is beautiful because it’s natural. There’s an integral balance in honesty, and anything that grows from it is representative of its lovely symmetry.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Opportunities must be seized in the moment. You don’t always accurately estimate the work involved. Ideally, you’d strike a balance between aspiration and self-care, but if it’s not possible, at least you’ll be working with a surprising amount of strength and stamina.
ARIES (March 21-April 19). The mood is warm, nostalgic and teeming with simple pleasures such as the smell of rain on a hot sidewalk, finding a bill in your pocket or sharing a look that says everything without a single word.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20). It’s very natural not to understand things the first time you’re experiencing them. Whether doing, hearing or seeing, it takes repetition to clarify the information and get to deeper meanings, and it takes boldness to ask for the clarity you need.
GEMINI (May 21-June 21). The universe clinks a spoon against a glass, drawing attention for a toast. The acknowledgement of you is not about a big moment or milestone, rather it’s something more remarkable — the small, daily kindnesses you bestow wherever you are.
CANCER (June 22-July 22). You welcome problems, especially the kind that seem easy to solve. Some can be handled with a simple attitude shift. This may involve letting go of an idea. You’re willing to forgive, forget and adjust.
TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Aug. 11). You’ll be an advocate and a very successful one. You’ll fight for freedom and win. You’ll open opportunities for yourself and others. You’ll get the credit you so richly deserve. More highlights: sweet financial surprises, and a wonderful twist in your personal life that leads to new connections and tight bonds. Also, you’ll hit three educational milestones. Virgo and Libra adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 4, 30, 2, 22 and 18.
CELEBRITY PROFILES: From the woods of Snow White’s world to the planet-hopping journey of “Star Trek” and all the Norse mythology in between, Chris Hemsworth has been to many worlds and ruled them, too. Arguably, the upcoming role of bodybuilder Hulk Hogan, who lives in a nonmagic realm of earthly reality, may actually be his biggest character stretch to date. Hemsworth is a Leo with natal sun, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune all in fire signs, indicating a passion that is tempered by a strong Libran artistic influence.
