Tom Brady sends message to Derek Jeter after Yankees World Series loss
Derek Jeter has received a message of support from NFL icon Tom Brady after the New York Yankees lost the World Series.
The legendary Major League Baseball ace, who played shortstop for the Yankees for more than two decades, walked away from Major League Baseball in 2014. Now Jeter is a broadcaster for FOX Sports and is part of the pre and postgame shows for the World Series
On Monday, the former team captain shared a carousel post to Instagram saying it was “an October to remember!” In the post, Jeter uploaded photos of him from the day, including various shots of commentating and another of him posing with the trophy.
Superstar quarterback Brady, who spent 20 seasons with the New England Patriots, took to the comments to congratulate Jeter on his TV gig, writing: “Amazing and love seeing you on TV KILLING IT! 💯”
However, multiple Yankees fans were far from cheered by Jeter’s caption after their defeat against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who achieved a 7-6 victory after overcoming a 5-run deficit following a series of errors by the Yankees.
And they made their feelings known, with some requesting that Jeter become the next coach for the New York baseball team.
Newsweek emailed a spokesperson for Jeter for comment on Tuesday.
“I would like to forget it specifically the top of the 5th inning,” one person commented, referring to Jeter’s caption.
“Take over the team somehow Jeter these ain’t the Yankees you raised us on,” someone else wrote.
A third added: “Ain’t s*** to smile about Derek.”
Others shared their support for Jeter and commended him for the job he did as a commentator, with one Instagram user writing: “Great job as a commentator! But you’d be so much better as the manager of New York Yankees!!! Aaron Boone must go.”
“Wish it had a different ending and the Yankees won. But it was a fun run, and it was great seeing you at Yankee Stadium in October, like the old days. :’) Love ya, Captain,” said another.
“You at The Stadium in October brings back the best memories! Love seeing you with Mr Torre. #RE2PECT 🫡 💙 Wish it had turned out different for our Yankees,” someone else wrote.
The Yankees have a lot to think about during this offseason after falling three games short of winning their 28th World Series title.
The Yankees have many players hitting the free agent market this winter but none more significant than superstar outfielder Juan Soto, who could land a record-breaking contract similar to Shohei Ohtani’s $700 million deal.
Soto’s decision on where to sign this offseason will significantly impact the Yankees’ direction in 2025, possibly sending a highly coveted first baseman to the Bronx.
“A theory of one rival executive is that if Soto signs with the (New York) Mets, then agent Scott Boras—who represents Soto and slugger Pete Alonso—will work to convince the Yankees that they need Alonso to fill in the power gap,” ESPN’s Buster Olney wrote Monday when discussing the Yankees’ offseason agenda.
