Top five Texas A&M sports stories from 2024
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Another calendar year is in the books and 2024 is filled with plenty of memories for Texas A&M.
From a deep run in the College World Series to individual and team national championships.
- No. 5 is the A&M volleyball team’s 21-8 performance in year two under head coach Jamie Morrison. The Aggie’s beat Texas on the road in Austin for the first time in two decades and made it to the sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament where they dropped a five set thriller to Wisconsin.
- No. 4 is when A&M picked up the first NCAA tournament win of the Buzz Williams Era. The Aggies beat Nebraska 98-83 in the first round in Memphis.
- No. 3 is the return of the rivalry. After more than a decade of not playing each other Texas A&M and Texas faced off at Kyle Field. While Aggie fans don’t want to remember this game, it’s important for the rivalry to be renewed.
- No. 2 are a pair of national championship performances. The women’s tennis team clinched it’s first ever national title with a 4-1 win over Georgia after dropping three previous match-ups to the Bulldogs this season. On the links Adela Cernousek became the first individual national champion in program history after shooting a 12-under 276 through stroke play at the 2024 NCAA Championships.
- The No. 1 story is the Aggie baseball team’s run at the college world series making it all the way to the finals. However head coach Jim Schlossnagle jumped ship the very next day to join Texas and assistant Michael Earley is now the man in charge for the maroon and white.
