Tourists in the know call this place ‘Europe’s best-kept secret’!
This might be the most beautiful place in the world that you’ve never heard of
FAROE ISLANDS (Tara’s Travels) – I’ve always had a trip to the Faroe Islands in the back of my mind. After all, where else can you visit a country that has more sheep than people?!
More than 130,000 tourists now visit this archipelago in the North Atlantic every year. Comprised of 18 volcanic islands located between Iceland and Scotland, the Faroe Islands have become what some in the industry are calling “Europe’s best-kept secret.”
I was invited by my pal Michael Raucheisen from Icelandair. (I met him over 10 years ago when 20th Century Fox brought me to the country for a “Walter Mitty” DVD release “behind the scenes” trip!) to hop on the inaugural Reyjkavik-Vágar direct flight and spend three days exploring as much as I could!
This new route will make it easier for North American tourists to visit.
Oh, and what are the odds? Our main guide, Høgni Reistrup, is heading OUR way in October. Keep your eyes open for him! I’m hoping we can show him the same kind of hospitality the Faroese showed this loud, blond TV gal from AZ.
Enjoy the pics and TV segments.
How I got there
Icelandair JUST added direct service to Vágar, Faroe Islands from Reykjavik. I hopped the PHX – Boston flight on AA (my sister lives there) and then took Icelandair from there.
