TOZO S5 Fitness Smartwatch Review – CGMagazine

TOZO is an intelligent electronic brand owned by TOZO INC, based in Seattle, USA. The TOZO brand was registered and established in 2015, adhering to the brand concept of “Tech Around You” and committed to providing people with the latest technology in intelligent wearable products. But how did it fare against the likes of giants in the smartwatch market, like Apple, Samsung and Google/Fitbit?

The TOZO S5 fitness smartwatch has some versatile offerings: Make clear calls directly from your watch with Bluetooth calling. The vibrant 1.43-inch AMOLED screen is bright in all environments—along with a 466×466 resolution. It monitors the user’s heart rate, blood oxygen, and sleep with 80+ sports modes. It boasts running for about 10 to 30 days of battery life with a single charge and a 300mAh battery. With IP68 dust and water resistance, this smartwatch is ready for any adventure.

The TOZO S5 comes in three colours and styles: Black, Titanium Grey, and Orange. The frame of the smartwatch is the same, but the wristband materials vary. The Black model, which I received, features the standard rubber wristband; the Titanium Grey comes with a stainless steel finish, and the Orange has a leather-like wristband. I would argue it’s more light brown than orange. The rubber silicone felt comfortable and didn’t irritate my skin, even after days of continuous use.

After about a month of usage, the TOZO S5 fitness smartwatch accomplished the primary tasks of most smartwatches on the market. It did a great job connecting easily to my phone, displaying my messages and notifications from my phone at an easy glance.

The “up to 30-day battery life” was very much untrue. I was already skeptical when I heard it was only a 300mAh battery. I left the watch idle for a day because I wanted to wear one of my analog watches that day. The TOZO S5 was at 100% life when I left it, but the next day, I checked it before putting it back on. It was at 80% battery life! In a shocking discovery, I double-checked it to see if something was left on, but nope, nothing.

This made me want to try leaving the TOZO S5 idle for another day, and sure enough, it was not a trick to my eyes or sanity. The average battery life after a couple of months of use was about 2-3 consecutive days max—closer to 3 if I set the brightness to the lowest setting. The charger itself was cool, with the magnetic seal to clip the charger to the watch. However, it was in an awkward position to latch it on. The length of the cord was also shorter, which was a major inconvenience.

The overall build of the metal frame seemed durable and sleek. I used it during heavy work, and there were no scratches on it—even the screen maintained its integrity against brushes or minor scrapes. The silicone strap resembled those found on other smartwatches, like many Fitbit or Samsung models. Unfortunately, it felt flimsy and thin. While it didn’t break during rigorous activities like running, tennis, or volleyball, it lacked sturdiness.

As for the interchangeable clock faces, they felt flat and unsophisticated. They gave off the same vibe as some poorly designed custom wallpapers available on phone app stores. In terms of elegance, the metal or leather straps would enhance its appearance. But again, considering the cost of this device, it’s understandable that this is a barebones model.

One of the questions I had after a couple of months of usage was whether it improved tracking my health and quality of life. I can honestly say it was great to have as a basic smartwatch. Once I adjusted to the TOZO S5 capabilities, the experience was decent. For the cost-benefit ratio, it was convenient for quickly checking messages, monitoring my sleep was intriguing, and tracking my daily activity and steps was a bit alarming, as it showed how little I move around.

“The TOZO S5 fitness smartwatch did what any basic smartwatch could do, but really encouraged me to get moving more.”

As for the TOZO Wear app, it was very simple and visually straightforward. The tracking for daily steps, calories burned, blood oxygen levels, sleep duration and quality, heart rate, and distance travelled was easy to understand. The different colour schemes for each data set helped distinguish them from one another.

The TOZO S5 fitness smartwatch did what any basic smartwatch could do but really encouraged me to get moving more. It featured cute goal-tracking celebrations, which became harder to hit as my daily chores and intensity increased. Days when I played volleyball and pushed myself as hard as my favourite Haikyuu!! characters were my most active with this smartwatch. However, it has also been great at tracking the thousands of steps I take at my full-time job.

With it being on sale on the tech company’s website for around $60 makes this smartwatch a good steal. At its regular price of $131 is not bad, but users could spend a bit more for a similar experience with the lower tier smartwatch from other major smartwatch companies like Samsung and Google/Fitbit.
