MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – After a very cold start to the weekend yesterday, we’re turning back to milder weather for the next 7-10 days. In fact, we’re tracking a huge warm-up for the latter part of this week! High temperatures will climb to the middle 30s by Christmas, then jump to near 50° by Friday!

This means our snowpack will quickly diminish, and that the next weather-makers that move in will likely bring more of a messy mix of rain and snow.

What’s Coming Up…

Sunday is mainly cloudy, but I think there should be a few peeks of sunshine here and there. Winds will be a bit stronger than yesterday, pulling warmer air from the south. Highs will be in the mid and lower 30s.

Temperatures will actually get warmer overnight following a warm front that moves through. Low pressure will begin to move closer to the state after midnight. If you’re commuting or traveling on Monday morning, there will be some spots of flurries and drizzle that could create icy spots on the roads. That potential is especially high north of the Dells, so plan for some extra time if you’re traveling in that direction.

Through the afternoon, additional sleet and rain will be possible but pavement temperatures should be warm enough by then to eliminate the threat of any freezing on the roads. High temperatures will be in the mid and upper 30s during the afternoon.

Christmas Eve & Christmas Day…

Any travel on Christmas Eve will be good to go, with mostly cloudy but dry conditions expected across the state. High temperatures will be near or above freezing in most spots. Christmas Day on Wednesday looks mostly cloudy as well, with temperatures in the middle and upper 40s. There will be the chance for some drizzle or flurry activity, but temperatures will likely be warm enough that road conditions remain ice-free.

Temperatures soar after Christmas, reaching 50° on Friday! Rain will be likely on both Friday and Saturday.
