Transgender woman’s membership to Life Time Fitness terminated

ELLISVILLE, Mo. (First Alert 4) – The transgender woman at the heart of an investigation by Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey said her membership had been terminated at the Life Time Fitness in Ellisville.

Eris Montano said she wanted to get in shape and was glad the gym allowed her to change clothes in the women’s locker room. Before signing up, she had formally changed the gender marker on her state-issued driver’s license. The process involves a form filed through the Department of Revenue and includes a section to be filled out via a medical provider.

Montano said that last Monday, another patron confronted her about changing in the women’s lockers, but other patrons had seemed supportive of her. In response to complaints from constituents, Rep. Justin Sparks (R-Wildwood) called a press conference to call for an investigation into Life Time Fitness. Attorney General Andrew Bailey responded to the incident on Friday, saying he would investigate the Minnesota-based fitness chain.

Monday, Montano said she was walked out of the Life Time Fitness by police because of some special media posts. Life Time Fitness told First Alert 4 the posts impacted security at one of its clubs, so they took swift action.
