Travel advisory extended amid fresh round of closures – Western Wayne News
After several inches of snow, the Whitewater Valley’s road conditions are prompting a new round of cancellations and delays for Monday, Jan. 6, and Tuesday, Jan. 7, and an extension of Wayne County’s travel advisory.

Travel watch
- Wayne County Commissioners extended the Level II snow emergency until noon Tuesday. Only travel for essential needs (work, school, medical care, prescription medicines, food, fuel, safe shelter or first responders) is permitted on county roads. The declaration doesn’t include federal/state highways. For more information, call Wayne County Emergency Management Agency at 765-973-9399.
- As of 4:45 p.m. Monday, Fayette County remained at a red travel advisory (first responders only).
Closures/delays
Monday, Jan. 6
- Amvets Post 38 in Greens Fork is closed.
- Harry Ray American Legion Post 65 in Richmond is closed.
Tuesday, Jan. 7
Schools
- Centerville-Abington Community Schools are closed Tuesday.
- Fayette County School Corp. will conduct another e-learning day. Information: fayette.k12.in.us/article/1945172
- Nettle Creek Schools will conduct e-learning. It’s a Purple Day. Teachers should have assignments posted by 9 a.m. Grades pre-K through second should have packets to complete. E-learning assignments will be due Jan. 14. Contact teachers via email or ParentSquare with questions.
- Northeastern will have another synchronous learning day. Students in grades K-12 need to log into their Google Meeting sessions at 9 a.m. Preschool is closed.
- Richmond Community Schools is closed Tuesday. Instruction will be made up Feb. 17. Students have no e-learning or Canvas assignments. Staff shouldn’t report unless directed by their supervisor.
- Seton Catholic Schools are closed Tuesday. Instruction will be made up Jan. 20.
- Union County-College Corner Joint School District is closed. School will be in session Feb. 17.
- Western Wayne Schools will conduct another e-learning day. No athletic activities and/or practices.
Organizations and Government
- Centerville Public Library will be closed Tuesday.
- Hagerstown Library is closed Tuesday.
- Joseph Moore Museum at Earlham College is delaying its Tuesday opening until noon. The natural history/science museum will be open until 5 p.m. The Little Explorers weekly program is canceled.
- Reid Health will post updates about its medical offices and other operations at reidhealth.org/winter-weather-information. As of Monday evening, Reid officials had declared Reid Fitness will be open from noon-6:30 p.m. Tuesday with no Medical Fitness or HIIT in the morning or Rock Steady Boxing in Connersville.
- Western Wayne Girl Scouts 03317’s meeting has been canceled. The cookie meeting is rescheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, at Dublin Friends Meeting.
- Menopause workshop at Dwyer Community Center, 1417 N. A St., Richmond. It is rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. Jan. 21. Admission is $10. RSVP at 765-488-2928.
Open confirmations
- Gateway Hunger Relief Center has confirmed it will be open from 10 a.m.-noon Tuesday, 715 Sheridan St., Richmond. gatewayhungerrelief.org
- Emergency Warming Center is open at LifeSpring Church, 501 S. Seventh St., Richmond. Doors on South E open at 6 p.m. Free transportation is available upon request when volunteers can provide it. 765-313-9670
- IU East will resume normal operations at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. For additional updates, visit emergency.iu.edu.
Warming resources
The Emergency Warming Center in Richmond is open Monday evening at LifeSpring Church South (501 S. Seventh St.) Enter through the South E door.
Some Wayne County volunteer fire stations will open for those needing temporary emergency warming.
