Travel Advisory: Ramp Closure on State Route 17 in Apalachin
The New York State Department of Transportation has issued a travel advisory for motorists regarding the closure of the on-ramp from State Route 962J to State Route 17 westbound at Exit 66 in Apalachin.
The closure is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 24, and Wednesday, September 25, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on both days. This temporary closure is necessary to facilitate paving operations in the area.
During the closure, a signed detour will be in place to assist drivers. Motorists will be directed to take State Route 434 west to Exit 65 in Owego, where they will be able to access State Route 17 westbound at that interchange. It is important to note that all construction activities related to this project are weather-dependent and may be subject to change based on conditions.
In light of this situation, the Department of Transportation urges all drivers to exercise caution, slow down, and drive responsibly while passing through work zones. Fines for speeding in work zones are doubled, and individuals with convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could face the suspension of their driver’s license.
The mission of the New York State Department of Transportation is to provide a safe, reliable, equitable, and resilient transportation system that serves to connect communities, enhance the quality of life, protect the environment, and support the economic well-being of New York State. To ensure the safety of highway workers and all road users, drivers must slow down and move over when passing through construction zones.
